The Gold & Silversmithing studio is based in the School of Art at Melbourne's RMIT University, where art students are immersed in fine art studios and work to understand and interpret the world around them through art. Students in Gold & Silversmithing can study BA Fine Art, BA Fine Art (Hons), MFA (Research), MFA (Coursework) and PhD (Research). Practice-led research is an established area across the Art and Design fields at RMIT University. Our research degrees offer an environment where the investigation of ideas and material practice pertinent to artistic research sit alongside and inform the production of art. Central to this is a balance between studio practice and the conceptual and theoretical concerns that underpin the making of art. This dynamic environment supports students as they draw on transdisciplinary practices to consider the artistic, cultural and social position of their research.
